TransMontaigne Terminal Dock Repairs Over viewUnderwater Construction Corporation recently performed crucial structural repairs and underwater corrosion protective coatings application to pilings and dock infrastructure at the TransMontaigne Terminal Dock, located on the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

These pilings had weakened significantly, due to impact damage from continuous barge loading and unloading operations. The client sought infrastructure upgrades to abate further damage and shore up the existing pilings.

Working with the client, UCC’s commercial dive and marine teams developed cost-effective solutions for repairing, strengthening, and replacing key steel structural beams, supports, angles, vertical fender holders, treated oak wood fenders, and tied dolphin mooring fenders.

In addition, UCC’s team used a special, two-part epoxy resin with Kevlar® fiber reinforcement material for in-water coatings of all exposed metal and welded areas at the site.

This project was planned during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic, which required UCC to develop a comprehensive Pandemic Preparedness Plan with swift restrictions, actions, alerts, and guidelines to protect employees. This Plan was implemented prior to beginning the project. UCC implemented proven safety plans in harmony with TransMontaigne Terminal’s health and safety policy metrics.

TransMontaigne Doc RepairTo meet the client’s schedule, this project required multiple concurrent workstreams, and the ability to effectively utilize equipment provided by local sources and vendors.

According to Darrell Moody, Vice President of UCC’s Southern Region, “We were able to work with several subcontractors at the TransMontaigne Terminal Cape Girardeau site, coordinating schedules to ensure not only that our work was done on time, but others were also able to stay on schedule.”

”Sometimes, the contractor you are looking for isn’t the one that puts the best price to your request, but the one who is willing to examine your provided scope and seek an alternate solution”, stated John Phelps, Manager of Pipeline and Asset Integrity at TransMontaigne Partners L.P.
