Nuclear Power Plant Inspection

As a leading nuclear service company, UCC has developed a number of specialized inspection programs to support the nuclear industry, supported by our nuclear welding and coating inspections per our NUPIC audited 10CFR50 Appendix B QA Program, including:

  • Mechanical and structural inspection

  • Coating and corrosion inspection

  • Weld inspection

  • Stainless Steel Liner Leak detection

Our inspection programs also address traveling water screens, fuel pool liners and condensate storage tanks and are typically integrated in a comprehensive maintenance program. Learn more about our unique nuclear power plant inspection services and UCC’s industry qualified inspectors.

Nuclear Decommissioning

Nuclear divers can accelerate the remediation of high-risk and hazardous legacy pond and pool facilities. Nuclear diving is safe, regulator endorsed, proven, and most importantly, repeatable.

The benefits of using nuclear divers during spent fuel pond decommissioning do not have to stop once the majority of sludge and furniture is removed from the pond. The savings in cost, schedule, and dose can continue as the pond drain occurs. Tasks such as concrete shaving, scabbling, coating application for airborne contamination control, and even pouring grout or concrete to floor areas can all be safely, economically, and efficiently carried out by the nuclear diver.

Efficiently dismantling and deconstructing nuclear facilities requires specialized expertise and an understanding of the complexities associated with underwater environments. Our nuclear decommissioning services encompass everything from project planning to disposal of radioactive materials. UCC services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Project planning and project management – developing a strategy for the decommissioning process, with documented goals, timelines and resource allocations

  • Remote tooling engineered design, manufacture, tested, and field implementation

  • Remote tooling, cutting, and rigging technicians

  • Surveys and assessments – identifying and quantifying radioactive materials present in the facility, including sampling, analysis and monitoring

  • Decontamination – implementing procedures to remove or reduce radioactive contamination from surfaces, structures and equipment

  • Waste management – properly handling, packaging and disposing of radioactive waste generated from the decommissioning process, following strict guidelines and regulations

  • Reporting – maintaining and providing detailed records and documentation of all activities, such as surveys, waste inventories and compliance reports

At UCC, nuclear decommissioning services, whether with nuclear divers or remote tooling technicians, are performed with the utmost care, adhering to strict safety protocols to optimize conditions for safe and successful decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
